100 Themes: Gray

And so concludes the first story arc of the Dragon and the Witch. As is often the case with imaginative play, things get pretty crazy in a hurry. Ha-ha-ha! I'm looking forward to exploring this story and characters a bit more in the future, as I think I learned a bit about how they tick over the last couple of weeks. Especially the dragon, as he's seeming to not understand how people work at all, and is more excited/curious about what's going on with Abby's arrow wound.

I'm going to the S.P.A.C.E. small press expo in Columbus, Ohio in a couple of weeks, with my friend Leighton Conner (Fuzzball & Scuzzball, Laser Brigade), so I'm working frantically to get my books ready in time. Amy's editing while I'm finishing up the cover, doing freelance work, and making comics. It's really hectic right now, and I think the next theme "Fortitude" will talk a little about it.

100 Themes: Rainbow - Redo

I wasn't at all happy with the strip that I posted on Sunday...It was late and I was exhausted from a long weekend at Comic Con.So I went back in, and added some better ink, and color to it. This one is a lot closer to what I had in my head when I was working on it.

Also, I thought with the four panel strips I might try this more blocky format.  What do you think of it?
Thanks for bearing with me.

100 Themes: Rainbow

Wizard world was a ton of fun! Thank you everyone who came out, and saw us. One of the highlights was someone bought one of my Lando Calrissian prints and had Billy Dee Williams sign it.  Awesome!

Continuing the dragon storyline, things start to get a little weird...ha-ha-ha! Olivia always does this when she'd done something she knows better than to have done. She holds her hand over it and repeats "It's okay, it's okay..." Her efforts to convince us are adorable, but bear little fruit. :) Hope you all had a good week. I think I'm going to go crash now after a long weekend.

100 Themes: Blood

Continuing the story arc of The Girls and the Dragon, we see why you should never shoot an arrow in the direction of somebody...We had bows and arrows when I was a kid (among other things), and sometimes I'm amazed that none of us got hit. Ha-ha-ha!

In other news, I'll be at St. Louis Comic Con this weekend with original art, prints, calendars and buttons. I'll also be drawing and taking commissions all weekend, as well as chatting, so I hope you can stop by and say hi! If you can't make the show, I'll also be on Fox 2... LIVE from the Convention Center on Friday morning, doing a sketch of the host throughout the program and finishing it up by 9:00.

The Witch and the Dragon

The Video that I posted a couple of weeks ago, with the girls and the dragon puppet, along with a dose of Calvin and Hobbes, inspired me to give a short story arc into a fantasy setting a try. I'm also going to expand the panels from three to four. I know that doesn't sound very interesting to just say it, but I'm actually kind of excited about seeing how it effects the story, and pacing.

Also, today was our first craft show of the season, Green With Indie, here in Saint Louis. It was a great show, and I got to talk to a lot of people about Life With Girls, and the upcoming Fairy Tale book. It looks like it's going to be an exciting year for us. :)

Life with Girls Fairy Tales Book

It's been a busy week, as I'm painting like a crazy person, trying to get ready for Green With Indie this coming weekend, and Wizard World-Saint Louis in three weeks...and keep up with freelance work at the same time. So tonite, with my strip written but not yet drawn, I was faced with the decision of giving you a quick and potentially very bad strip, or some art. I decided to go with the art.

This is the inked cover of the Life With Girls Fairy Tale book that I've been working on for most of the past year at Handmade Family. Featuring 12 stories and 36 illustrations, it's been a big job filled with delays, but we're in the final stretch now, and it's coming along great. We're all really looking forward to releasing it in the next month or so.

To see more images from it, you can check out the Handmade Family Blog, or my Instagram feed.
